Open-community Profiling Assessment tooL (OPAL)
The Open-community Profiling Assessment tooL (OPAL) is a software tool developed to address the need for systematic comparisons among many taxonomic metagenome profiling methods that have emerged over recent years. The rapid expansion of these methods has underscored the necessity for a standardized framework to evaluate their performance based on relevant and commonly accepted metrics.
OPAL integrates performance metrics used in the first challenge of the initiative for the Critical Assessment of Metagenome Interpretation (CAMI), a pivotal effort to benchmark metagenome analysis tools. By incorporating these metrics, OPAL ensures that comparisons are made using established standards within the scientific community, facilitating meaningful evaluations of different profiling tools.
In addition to implementing these standardized performance metrics, OPAL provides users with convenient visualizations, making it easier to interpret the results of these comparisons.
